The list of smartphones offered to youths under the RM200 rebate through the Youth Communication Package will be issued next week by seven telecommunications companies with cooperation of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

The seven companies are Celcom, Maxis, Digi, U Mobile, Clixster, Tune Talk and YTL Communications (YES).

MCMC strategic communications advisor Sheikh Raffie Abd Rahman said the seven telecommunications companies needed to inform MCMC of the models of smartphones before offering them to eligible youths.

“After obtaining the list of models, MCMC will consolidate the lists for the respective telecommunications company to upload into their websites. MCMC will also monitor on the brand, price and ensure there are no cases of fake phones.

"The smartphone models offered by each dealer may be different and not all dealers may have the models youths want," he told Bernama here today.

22,000 applicants approved

The cabinet had earlier agreed that youths aged between 21 to 30 years with monthly income of less than RM3,000 qualify to buy any smartphones with the RM200 rebate announced by the government.

On this note, Sheikh Raffie advised youths to be patient when applying online at MCMC's website to obtain the RM200 rebate.

He said MCMC was improving and monitoring the online application system from time to time to meet the request of all parties.

He said as at 8am today, 22,000 applicants had been approved on the RM200 rebate.
