RM3k fine for assaulting journalist

The magistrate's court in George Town today imposed a total fine of RM3,000 on a member of a voluntary patrol team who had pleaded guilty to assaulting a newspaper journalist and causing the latter losses of RM1,200.
Voluntary patrol team member Lim Ah Chye is fined by the magistrate’s court after pleading guilty to assaulting Guang Ming Daily’s Ang Kean Siang last Dec 30.

Magistrate Norhayati Ibrahim fined Lim Ah Chye, 52, RM1,000, in default one month's jail, for causing hurt to Ang Kean Siang, 32, of Guang Ming Daily at about 1.40am on Dec 30 in Lorong Perak in George Town.
She fined him RM2,000, in default two month’s jail, for causing the victim losses of RM1,200.
Lim was charged with committing the offences in Lorong Perak when Ang was covering the death of a woman at an apartment in Jalan Perak.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Khairul Fairoz appeared for the prosecution while Lim was represented by lawyer Sukhindarpal Singh.
