Police in Kuantan say they believe three houses were believed to have been robbed in less than three hours by a gang of robbers, since the modus operandi was the same.
In the first incident at Lorong Pelindung 33 in Kuantan, at about 8.30pm four masked men, armed with parang, broke into the house of a businessman.
Kuantan deputy police chief Supt Abdul Aziz Ahmad said, Gow Jun Hor, 22, rushed home from his shop in Kuantan after his mother, in her 60s, telephoned him.
“The robbers had ransacked the house and carted away jewellery and cash worth RM55,000 but his mother was not hurt,” he said when contacted in Kuantan today.
He said the robbers struck again at the house of another businessman, 46, who was not at home, in Lorong IM 2/90 near Bandar Indera Mahkota in Kuantan at 9.30pm.
“He also received a call from his mother, in her 60s, informing him she had been robbed by four masked men armed with parang.
“The robbers made off with jewellery, cash and branded wristwatch worth about RM20,000 and the closed-circuit television. His mother was unhurt,” he said.
Aziz also said a house in Lorong Tuk Sira 4/2 Taman Melor was also robbed by nine masked men in two cars armed with parang, in an earlier incident at 7.40pm.
“However, the robbers only managed to escape with a bracelet worth RM3,000. The modus operandi used was the same at all three houses whereby the robbers prised open the front door to enter the houses,” he added.
