PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali has confirmed that former Bukit Aman CID director Mohd Fauzi Shaari would be the party’s candidate for the Larut parliamentary seat.
Mustafa said that this decision has solved the candidacy issue for the area, referring to the Larut PAS members’ dissatisfaction and boycott over the decision to select Fauzi.
“They have already accepted it,” said Mustafa, adding that the decision was also well accepted by the grassroots leaders.
Mustafa also stated that PAS’ decision to select Fauzi, who has only been a PAS member for four months, as the Larut parliamentary candidate had caused quite a stir .
Some 1,500 PAS members from six branches in Selama, Perak, reportedly threatened to boycott the upcoming general election because the local PAS chief had been dropped as an election candidate.
Perak PAS Youth information chief Mohd Akmal Kamaruddin had to make way for Fauzi and contest instead for the Selama state assembly seat, while PAS Larut division chief Mohd Dhari Othman had to be dropped as an election candidate altogether.
