Malay rights pressure group Perkasa today pledged support for the BN to win two-thirds majority in the coming GE so that issues of royalty and religion would be silenced.

Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali read out the pledge of support for the BN in front of 5,000 delegates and observers at their annual general meeting at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur today.

NONE "We pledge we will not be divided, surrender or become traitors in order to safeguard the religion, race and country.

"We pledge to help ensure BN's victory in order for it to obtain a two-thirds majority," said Ibrahim during his policy speech.

Ibrahim, who is also Pasir Mas independent MP said if BN regains the two-thirds majority, issues relating to the Malay rulers and Islam would not be raised by other races.

He urged all Perkasa members to support all BN candidates in the coming election. The NGO is said to have over 352,000 members nationwide.

“Don’t feel slighted...there are MCA leaders who have given all kinds of responses (towards us) ... I too feel hurt. MCA can actually help Umno to set up a strong government.

“That is why we must vote Umno and BN...I am still angry with Umno and BN, but my anger cannot overcome (the needs of) religion, race and country,” he said.

Still obsessed with LGBT

Speaking later at a press conference, Ibrahim said supporting BN candidates from MCA and MIC did not conflict with Perkasa’s mission of championing Malay rights.

“We support all BN candidates including MCA and MIC. We do not look at private issues. Leaders come and go.... it is not the question of the individual. It’s not fair if we reject everyone just because one person drags in the mud,” he said.

When asked if supporting BN meant Perkasa supported the struggles of MCA, Ibrahim said the group did not support the coalition based on any individuals.

At the event today he also read out Perkasa’s 10 declarations and resolutions that included the question of racial integration, religious freedom and the threat of pluralism and of the influence of the gay and transgender (LGBT) communities.

Perkasa also stated its support for the National Education Blueprint and rejection of alleged foreign intervention in the country.

These will be voted on during the AGM proper in the evening.
