Another Keadilan leader held under ISA

Another Keadilan leader, Dr Badrul Amin Baharom, was detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) by police at his house in Kepong at about two this morning.
According to his wife, Zumrah Husni, some 20 police personnel surrounded the house before entering the premises at about 1:15am. The police took away the former International Islamic University law lecturer about 45 minutes later.
Zumrah said her husband had been arrested under Section 8 of the Act.
According to another source, about 30 police personnel were involved in the early morning sting operation.
Police had been observing Badrul's Taman Desa Jaya house as well as his mother-in-law's house in Sabak Bernam, Selangor since last Tuesday. However, Badrul was able to elude the police until this morning.
Last Tuesday and Wednesday, seven Keadilan leaders and reformasi activists were detained under the ISA for allegedly using "militant means" to topple the government.
They are Keadilan vice-president Tian Chua, Keadilan Youth head Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor, Youth secretary N Gobalakrishnan, activist Abdul Ghani Haroon, Black 14 organising committee chairman Saari Sungib, malaysiakini columnist Hishamuddin Rais and Free Anwar Campaign (Freeanwar.com) webmaster Raja Petra Raja Kamaruddin.
Dr Badrul Amin is the eighth person arrested in the latest series of ISA detentions.
At a press conference to clarify the detention of the seven last week, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Norian Mai said the police were still searching for a number of other activists, including those allegedly involved in a secret 20-member cell planning to organise anti-government rallies.

Norian, however, was reluctant to reveal the exact number of people still being sought by the police when asked by reporters.
Malaysiakini reported yesterday that the police had been looking for Badrul Amin since last Tuesday, the first day of the operation to detain reformasi activists under the ISA.
According to sources, among those believed to be still being sought by police are reformasi activist Abdul Malek Hussin and a Keadilan Youth leader, Lokman Noor Adam.
Badrul Amin is well known as a preacher and motivational expert before he joined Keadilan in 1999. Political speeches given by the Tawau-born Badrul are popular with many opposition supporters.
He received his first degree in Syariah Law from the Al-Azhar University in Egypt. He furthered his studies in the United Kingdom where he did comparative law at the University of Kent before earning his doctorate in philosophy from Birmingham.
He is also active in social work and is one of the promoters of the Malaysian Muslim Youth Movement (Abim).
