The Pahang state government today tabled a surplus budget after 10 years of experiencing balanced and deficit budgets.

Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob when tabling the 2013 budget at the state assembly sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang in Kuantan said the government’s 2013 revenue is projected to amount to RM736.90 million, comprising land and mining revenue at RM260 million, forestry (RM180 million), other revenue (RM190.4 million) and federal grant (RM106.5 million).

NONE According to Adnan ( left ), the 2013 state budget also provided RM711.84 million allocation to implement all state government development programmes and plans.

He said from the allocation, RM604.77 million were for operating expenditure, RM61.72 million for development expenditure from state sources and RM45.35 million from federal government borrowings.

“The 2013 budget shows a surplus of RM25.06 million,” he said.

Adnan said Pahang was still borrowing from the federal government to implement water supply projects in the state.

“This is because the state government continues to take the responsibility of providing clean water to the people in Pahang.   

“The projects involved construction of water treatment plants to provide water to districts, programme to reduce non-revenue water loss and upgrading water intakes are still using allocation borrowed from the federal government,” he said.         

He said the six main focus areas of the 2013 state budget were promoting economic and investment activities, strengthening infrastructure, empowering education and training, efficient public service delivery, aid for the people’s well-being, and special attention to the Orang Asli community.
