The Selangor state legislative assembly today nominated former Parti Keadilan Rakyat deputy president Dr Syed Husin Ali as senator for a second term.

The nomination was proposed by Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and seconded by state investment, trade and industry committee chairperson Teresa Kok Suh Sim.

Syed Husin’s first term as senator ends this Dec 16.

The state assembly also nominated Kajang municipal councillor from the DAP,  T Chandra Mohan, as senator for a three-year term.

His nomination was proposed by Kok and seconded by state housing, building management and squatters committee chairperson Iskandar Abdul Samad.

Chandra Mohan, a workers’ rights activist, has 30 years of political experience and had once served as political secretary to the late well-known Malaysian unionist, V David.

He replaces Senator S Ramakrishnan, also from the DAP, whose current term  ends on Dec 9.

The state assembly sitting continues tomorrow.
