Selangor executive councillor for local government Ronnie Liu came under fire today for making a statement contradictory to Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim on the transfer of the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) president.

NONE "You issued a statement before the menteri besar did. Explain which one is correct. This exco member needs to be replaced!" Batang Kali assemblyperson Mohd Isa Abu Kassim said during the state assembly sitting.

Liu ( left ) replied that Khalid had already explained this issue at a press conference earlier that he did not ordered the transfer of the Selayang municipal president, Zainal Abidin A'ala.

However, Isa was still not satisfied and shouted across the floor, forcing the speaker Teng Chang Kim to tell him off. Khalid then rose to say he would respond to Isa.

“Batang Kali (representative), sit down. In accordance to the rules, all questions are directed to the menteri besar. It’s just that the menteri besar has the power to let the exco members answer it.

“So when the exco member does not give a satisfactory answer on this issue, then the menteri besar answers.

“Sit down, do you want the answer or not? If you don’t want the answer, we’ll move on to the next question... Calm down, calm down. It’s still morning and it is already so ‘hot’, what for?” Teng said before Khalid could respond.

Separately, to a question from Kajang assemblyperson Lee Kim Sin, Liu said the law allows the state government to appoint local council presidents and mayors from members of the public on a contract basis.

The state government would consider doing so if the federal government repeatedly interferes with he state’s affairs, he said.
