Selangor state Assembly opposition leader Mohamad Satim Diman described the Selangor 2013 budget as nothing special.

On the other hand, he said, the tabling of the budget was an attempt to divert the people's attention from the pldeges made by PKR, PAS and DAP which could not be implemented since the last general election.

He said this was because based on the state budget, the Selangor government only focused on new promises by implementing mega projects such as the construction of the third bridge in Klang, the use of Storm Water downstream and upgrading drainage and constructing prefabricated affordable homes.

NONE "However, upon scrutinising the 2013 state budget, the state government is not channeling funds for development programmes for the people such as the problems of farmers and entrepreneurs... what we see are merely mega projects," Satim (left) said.

He said this when approached after the tabling of the 2013 Budget amounting to RM1.63 billion by Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim at the state assembly sitting in Shah Alam today.

In the budget themed 'Selangor peneraju ekonomi Malaysia’ (Selangor leading Malaysia's Economy), a sum of RM996.98 million or 61 per cent is for operating expenditure, while RM633.01 million or 39 per cent is for development expenditure.

Abdul Khalid also announced a state government reserves of RM500 million which, among others, would be utilised for building the third bridge in Klang costing RM300 million and RM100 million to initiate the implementation of the Storm Water usage in downstream areas as treated water.

Meanwhile, another RM100 million would be spent on repairing and upgrading the drainage system in Selangor as well as building prefabricated houses by the Selangor Housing and Real Estate Board.

The state assembly will sit again tomorrow.
