Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob said he would support it if Umno members contesting in the coming 13th general election were required to declare their assets.

He said this would be an appropriate move as the candidates should be free of the elements of suspicion before being considered eligible to contest, besides preventing them from living beyond their means.

“We need to project candidates who have integrity and who are clean and credible to represent a distinguished party,” he said after handing out land titles to 86 Tementi Felda scheme settlers in Bera today.

PAS Youth had recently suggested to the party (PAS) for its leaders to declare their assets.

Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan, when asked at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today on the idea, said that the party had not discussed about requiring candidates to declare their assets.

“The party has, however, filed asset declaration forms with the Prime Minister’s Department for candidates holding the posts of minister, deputy minister and exco member,” he said.
