PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar will lodge a complaint with the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) against what she claims are wrongful allegations against her on the issue of apostasy.

She will lodge a complaint with the Jais director at 11am.

Speaking at the Parliament lobby, the Lembah Pantai MP, however, sidestepped the question when asked if she will meet the Selangor Sultan to explain the situation.

The Sultan had expressed disappointment over her alleged statement, which her detractors say is encouraging Muslims to leave the religion.

Yesterday, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mashitah Ibrahim told the Dewan Rakyat that Nurul Izzah can be charged with ‘maligning Islam’ .

Charge Utusan, Abdullah on harbi statement

The deputy minister also said that those making statements causing disharmony in Malaysia can be charged under Section 298A of the Penal Code.

She was replying to a question by Amran Ab Ghani (PKR-Tanah Merah) who asked if there is a fatwa declaring non-Muslims in Malaysia as kafir harbi (hostile non-believers) or kafir zimmi (friendly non-believers).

In a supplementary question, Amran said that he was referring to Kelantan grassroots ulama Abdullah Saamah who said that the DAP are kafir harbi.

Commenting on this today, PAS' Jerai MP Mohd Firdaus Ja'afar said that Utusan Malaysia , which had reported Abdullah's statement, should retract the report, while the ulama should retract the statement.

“If not, the authorities should charge the (newspaper) and the individual under this section,” he said.
