Flood conditions in Johor, Selangor and Malacca showed a marked improvement at 5pm today, while the situation in Perak remained unchanged.

As conditions improved, the number of flood victims residing at temporary flood relief centres dropped from 3,355 in the morning to 2,017 as 1,338 were allowed to return home.

Statistics from the National Security Council’s (NSC) portal showed 767 flood victims remained at 7 relief centres in Johor, namely in Batu Pahat and Ledang, compared with 987 last night.

In MALACCA, the number of victims remaining at relief centres in Jasin dropped from 74 in the morning to 61.

Conditions in Selangor which remained unchanged in the morning, improved drastically, allowing more families to return home as the number of flood victims at four centres in Kuala Langat and three in Sepang dropped from 2,117 to 1,012.

In PERAK, 177 remained at two temporary flood relief centres in Lower Perak, as the situation remained unchanged.

The Department of Irrigation and Drainage meanwhile, said water levels at three main rivers in Selangor, Johor and Negri Sembilan registered readings above the danger level.

The department said the reading at the Sungai Langat in Bukit Changgang, Selangor was 3.7m, Sungai Labu in Salak Tinggi (8.31m), Sungai Rembau in Titian Bintangor, Negri Sembilan (6.42m).

The department also warned that water level at Sungai Selangau B in Selangau, Sarawak had also reached the danger level.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has also forecast thunderstorms in the waters of several states, especially Penang, Perak, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Malacca, Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Labuan and the interiors of Sabah and Bunguran.

The department said the situation may result in strong winds and flash floods.
