A former Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University College (KLMU) lecturer faced two counts of bribery charges at the Sessions Court today for allegedly ‘selling a diploma’ to a student who did not attend classes or sit for his examination.

The accused, Elmy Shadzli Wahi, 40, however, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read out in front of judge Rozilah Salleh.

In the first charge, Elmy Shadzli was accused of receiving RM1,500 through a Malayan Banking Berhad account from student Muhammad Asrull Aizat Solehan as an inducement to issue Muhammad Asrull a diploma in culinary arts from the college, without attending classes or taking an exam.

He was alleged to have committed the offence at Dataran Maybank Bangsar No 1, Jalan Maarof in Kuala Lumpur at 3.30pm on July 13, 2012.

Elmy Shadzli Wahi faced a second charge of trying to solicit RM1,500 from Muhammad Asrull Aizat for the same purpose at 8.30pm on July 16, 2012 at Jalan Sri Ehsan 2, Taman Perindustrian Sri Ehsan in Kuala Lumpur.

The prosecution, led by Wan Ahmad Nizam Wan Omar from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), urged the court to set bail at RM6,000 for both the offences with one surety.

The accused, who was not represented, however urged the court to reduce the bail since his wife was pregnant and had three other children to take care.

Rozilah later set bail at RM5,000 with one surety and set Dec 5, for re-mention.
