Perkasa has imposed a gag order on its members from speaking to news portal Malaysiakini, citing alleged links with billionaire George Soros as the reason.

A source close to top Perkasa leaders today confirmed its chief Ibrahim Ali’s statement yesterday declaring a boycott of Malaysiakini .

NONE "Yes. If Perkasa didn't deny it (the statement), then it is true," the source said, reluctantly, when contacted by Malaysiakini . He declined to comment further.

Ibrahim, the MP for Pasir Mas, was reported today as saying, “It is haram for Perkasa members to give statements to Malaysiakini .

“We say something and they report us saying something else. We will boycott them until GE13,” he was quoted as saying.

The Perkasa chief was reported to have said this when addressing a special annual conference of Perkasa Selangor at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in Shah Alam yesterday.

Ibrahim continued to harp on allegations whipped up by the pro-BN mainstream media and cybertroopers that Soros ( below, on the right ) was allegedly funding Malaysiakini with the purported aim of toppling the government .

NONE However, the mainstream media has been largely silent on the meetings former PM Dr Mahathir and present PM Najib Abdul Razak have had with Soros.

The Soros-linked attacks began as a campaign to demonise human rights NGO Suaram, which initiated a probe in France over the Scorpene submarines scandal.

Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia condemned Suaram for receiving money from Soros' Open Society Foundation and the campaign eventually contrived to paint the Scorpene probe as a foreign attempt to discredit the ruling party.

Malaysiakini was dragged into the fray over the fact that one of the portal’s minority shareholders , the venture fund MDLF, receives contributions from a Soros fund.

‘Perkasa will back BN’

Meanwhile at the same event, Perkasa, which claims to be a non-governmental organisation, threw its weight fully behind the BN.

According to Bernama , Ibrahim said, “We have no choice but to determine the political power at the coming general election. Only BN appears to be capable.

"Therefore, I'll urge and ensure Perkasa members at grassroots level give their support to BN candidates," he told reporters after the opening of the conference by Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Noh Omar.

Ibrahim was the subject of a Malaysiakini interview in 2010, in which the fiery leader was highly critical of the online portal.

That same year, Ibrahim made it as Malaysiakini 's Newsmaker of 2010 for dominating the year’s headlines with his abrasive style and ethnic supremacist views.
