"For Penang, the state government has no Malay agenda, no Malay agenda.
“The federal government is working on various programmes, for example through (Penang Rural Development Agency) Perda, but it was not approved by the state administration. This is a fact," the Dewan Rakyat was told by Minister in Prime Minister's Department Nor Mohamed Yakcop ( right ) today.
He was answering a supplementary question from Yusmadi Yusoff (PKR-Balik Pulau) during Question Time today.
P Ramasamy (DAP-Batu Kawan) then stood up to interject, asking the minister to “retract” his parliamentary statement as it was untrue.
“The state government has approved Perda projects,” argued the Penang elected representative.
To this, Nor Mohamed conceded, “Yes, maybe a few here and there”, but did not retract nor back down from his position.
The fate of Penang Malays has been the point of contention between the Pakatan-led state government the BN state opposition.
BN has been accusing the DAP-led state administration of neglecting local Malays. However, Pakatan countered that they have given more allocations to state Islamic authorities and has helped alleviate the situation of all Penangites regardless of race.
