A teacher stared death in the face when the impact of a snatch theft hurled her in front of a car driven by a snatch thief, whose accomplice had earlier grabbed her handbag.

Lying on the road, Zura Asyikin Mustafa had hardly regained her composure when she saw to her horror, the vehicle heading in her direction opposite a grocery store in Pasir Tumboh in Kota Bharu yesterday.

In the haste to escape, the driver accelerated the vehicle, mowing down the 48-year-old victim in the incident about 10am, before escaping with the handbag containing personal documents, jewellery and RM2,000.

Zura Asyikin sustained a broken left hip bone and several cuts on the right and left knee, and toes.

She was warded at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Kerian here. Her condition was described as out of danger.

Kota Baharu police chief Supt Idris Abdul Rafar said today, the victim was stacking groceries into her car when the thieves drove alongside in a car before one of them snatched her handbag.

He said Zura Asyikin taught at the Datuk Hashim Primary School in Pengkalan Chepa here.

He urged witnesses to the incident to contact the nearest police station.
