The Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (UIA) Syura Council today lodged a police report over the circulation of a letter, purportedly written by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, to IIUM rector Prof Dr Zaleha Kamaruddin.
The Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (UIA) Syura Council today lodged a police report over the circulation of a letter, purportedly written by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, to IIUM rector Prof Dr Zaleha Kamaruddin.
It said the fake letter was distributed in the campus and posted by several blog sites.
The Syura Council takes such baseless lies seriously and has lodged a report at the Gombak police station at 9am, it said in a statement.
“The university would like to stress that the rector had never received such a letter from the prime minister as Umno president.
“The UIA Syura Council denies the allegation and regard the content of the letter as slander and done with malicious intent,” it added.
The UIA Syura Council said it could be the work of those who are desperate, unethical and associating themselves with the opposition and out to undermine the harmonious and peaceful atmosphere at the campus in the run up to the campus elections on Sept 25.
Disciplinary and legal action will be taken against any person who publishes, distributes or uploads the letter on their website or blog site, said the statement.
“The UIA Syura Council is investigating the case, including studying the security CCTV recording and will lodge a complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission,” it added.
