Ziarah for Peace will hold a human chain programme, from Changkat Jering in Perak to the federal administrative capital of Putrajaya, covering 351km with 1.5 million people taking part on Jan 1 next year.
Its president, Dr Mohd Zamri Mohd Nordin, said the programme was being organised to show symbolically that the people are united in their hope and to appreciate Malaysia as a peaceful destination.
"Participants will line the coastal road in Changkat Jering down to Beruas, Lumut, Hutan Melintang, Sekincan, Kuala Selangor, Banting and Putrajaya," Zamri told reporters at an Aidilfitri function and press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
Zamri said some 5,000 volunteers would be used to control traffic during the human chain programme.
"We also invite leaders to join us and are in the process of inviting Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak," he added.
About 200 local personalities are also expected to be involved in the programme.
