Dismissing voices who wants to experiment with change in the national leadership, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamed warned that if given a chance to rule, Pakatan Rakyat will not let go of the reins.

“Some people say give them a chance, if they are not good, after five years we vote BN back in.

NONE “But once in power Pakatan will do all they can not to allow a return to BN,” Mahathir told a group of government retirees at a meet-and-greet session in Bangsar today.

By then, he warned, it will be too late and there is no way for BN to return to power and it will spell the end of all the good things that the party has brought to the country.

Mahathir said that the people should be thankful for what the BN had already done for them and work hard to ensure that the party wins a bigger majority in the next general election.

‘Opposition hatred eroding patriotism’

The former PM also blamed the opposition for the lack of national flags being flown by Malaysians to celebrate the recent Merdeka Day, which has been seen as a sign of eroding patriotism amongst the rakyat.

“This stemmed from the opposition campaigns. They are not loyal to the country, but are loyal to their party.”

This split loyalty, Mahathir argued, resulted in some having their own idea of what the national flag should be like.

He cautioned that if this goes on, then sooner or later Malaysia will be in a situation where there is no unified symbol for the nation.
