Cops to arrest 2 Pakatan leaders if they don't show up
Kuala Lumpur police have summoned two top Pakatan leaders in relation to the ' Janji Demokrasi ' rally on then night of Merdeka Eve.
Kuala Lumpur police have summoned two top Pakatan leaders in relation to the ‘ Janji Demokrasi ’ rally on the night of Merdeka Eve.

“If they don’t appear on Sept 7, police will apply to the court for arrest warrants,” Kuala Lumpur deputy CID chief Aziz Zakaria is quoted as saying in Sin Chew Daily today.
Also wanted are the rally’s organisers Maria Chin Abdullah and Hishamuddin Rais, as well as the organiser of a separate rally held on the same day, Stanley Yong.
The ‘J anji Demokrasi ’ rally held near Dataran Merdeka was meant to “remind” the government of its unfulfilled promises to ensure a clean and fair election, whereas Yong’s ‘Merdeka March for Jalan Sultan’ was to pressure the government for the preservation of the historical area.
The Merdeka March was held just three hours before the Janji Demokrasi rally, about a kilometre away from each other.
When contacted, Mohamad Sabu (

), who is better known as Mat Sabu, said he was not at home when a letter telling him to give his statement to the police “immediately” was delivered.
He said he had promised the police that he would give his statement at Dang Wangi police station on Sept 9 because he would be away from Kuala Lumpur for the next two days.
Meanwhile, Yong told Malaysiakini that he was not contacted by the police at all and only found out that he was wanted to assist investigations when he read the newspapers this morning.
“Since they have given a deadline until tomorrow, I’d better go to the Dang Wangi station this afternoon to listen to what they wish to get from me,” he said.
