The Young Journalists Club of Malaysia today condemned the behaviour of a group of participants at gathering on the on the eve of Merdeka Day last Thursday night, who allegedly insulted the prime minister and the Malaysian flag.

Club president Dzulkarnain Taib urged the authorities to view the incident seriously, saying it was an unhealthy development which could worsen if unchecked.

He said the insolent acts were perpetrated by a small group of youngsters who were influenced by the opposition and did not represent the law-abiding majority of Malaysians.

“The mastermind pulling the strings behind the scenes of this gathering should be exposed,” he said in a statement.

He was commenting on the behaviour of a group of people who allegedly stepped on a picture of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and waved a different flag claiming that it was a replacement of the ‘Jalur Gemilang’.
