Penang BN said Penang Island Municipal Council's (MPPP) recent seizure of Jalur Gemilang flags was unpatriotic.

More than 300 Jalur Gemilang and BN flags that were displayed along Jalan Gotlieb in conjunction with the launching of the "Semboyan Dibunyikan" (Sounding the Siren) programme, were confiscated by MPPP on Merdeka Day, Aug 31.

Penang BN chairperson, Teng Chang Yeow said such incident would not happen during BN's rule in respect of the freedom of expression provided under the Federal Constitution.

"They pulled down the flags at night. If they took down the BN flags, I can  accept it but not the Jalur Gemilang flags as it is unpatriotic.

"This is not the first time. MPPP must repent and apologise to the people," he told reporters after launching the "Semboyan Dibunyikan" programme at the Indian Association field, Jalan Gotlieb, today.

A total of 500 contingents from the BN state seats of Pulau Tikus, Kebun Bunga, Air Putih and Tanjong Bungah attended the programme held at the Bukit Bendera parliamentary constituency-level.

The programme uses the 'attack and explain' approach in preparing for the upcoming general election.

Teng said the explanations were being given through the conventional and new media to counter the allegations made by the opposition against BN.
