The house and car of an anti-refinery project activist in Pengerang, Johor, was found splashed with red paint and sulphuric acid early this morning.

Goh Woan Tyug, the deputy secretary of the Save Pengerang Coalition, said had received a phone call from her mother at 6.30am this morning, informing her that her house, located at Kampung Jawa Laut, was found to have been splashed by two plastic bags full of red paint.

NONE After asking her mother to wait at the home to check out the matter further, Goh discovered that her car which was parked outside her Kampung Sungai Rengit home had also been splashed, but this time with sulphuric acid.

Goh, who is also a kindergarten teacher, explained she has been renting a room in Kampung Sungai Rengit for the sake of her job.

When contacted by Malaysiakini , she said that she and her mother have lodged police reports over the two incidents at the Pengerang and Sungai Rengit police stations respectively.

Not a coincidence

Goh insisted that the twin incidents were not merely a coincidence but related to her efforts to stop the controversial Petronas Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (Rapid) project.

“These definitely are not a coincidence… If the person (who did it) was not familiar with me, how can he or she splash the red paint at my house at Kampung Jawa Laut after splashing sulphuric acid on my car?” she queried.

She added that the coalition will hold a press conference over this matter.

NONE The Rapid project will eventually acquire some 9,000 hectares of land, affecting up to 15 villages in Pengerang, a small coastal town located some 110km from Johor Bahru.

It is famous for seafood, especially small lobsters.

The mega-project, which is part of the Economic Transformation Programme, aims to transform southern Johor into a refining and petrochemical centre.
