PAS ulama council chief Harun Taib has expressed support for the Islamic party’s beleaguered former deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa, saying he is still relevant to the party.

"Although he was not elected in the last muktamar (assembly), Nasharuddin still can contribute to PAS' struggle,” Utusan Malaysia today quoted Harun (left in photo) as saying.

Nasharuddin, who is also Bachok MP, had come under fire for questioning PAS' stance on the hudud and demanding that the party quits Pakatan Rakyat.

The PAS central committee has left it to the Syura Council to determine Nasharuddin's fate, since he is no longer in the central committee.

The council will meet on Sept 9.
