Siti Hartati Murdaya, an influential woman in Indonesian politics and a member of the Democratic Party advisory board, tendered her resignation in Jakarta today after being embroiled in a high profile bribery case.

Siti Hartati, who is from Indonesian President Bambang Yudhoyono's party, also resigned from the National Economic Committee and from active politics to concentrate on her case in court.

On Aug 8, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named Siti Hartati, the owner of PT Hardaya Inti Plantation and PT Citra Cakra Murdaya, as a suspect in the payment of Rp3 billion (RM1.017 million) in bribes to Buol district chief Amran Batalipu.

She was subsequently charged with offering the bribe to Amran, in exchange for favorable land concessions needed to extend Hardaya Inti Plantation's palm oil

Siti Hartati has since denied the charge, but said she respect the KPK's procedures and follow the process of the law.
