Umno's stance on hudud worse than DAP's, says PAS

“For PAS and Muslims in Malaysia, Umno's rejection (of the hudud) is (worse than DAP’s). (Umno) has the authority to implement the hudud, (while) DAP rejects it in a situation where it does not have any mandate to implement it,” said information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man

He was responding to Perak mufti and National Fatwa Council member Harussani Zakaria, who had said the council will not reprimand Abdullah Sa'amah, the founder of traditional grassroots learning centre Pondok Geting in Tumpat, Kelantan, for potentially incendiary comments.
Last week, Umno-owned daily Utusan Malaysia had front-paged remarks by Abdullah that it is haram (forbidden) to support DAP because the party is against the hudud.
He had described DAP as kafir harbi , a term used in times of war to refer to states that are at war with Islamic states.

statement has raised more questions since Umno has clearly
rejected
implementation of the hudud, as announced by party president and premier Najib Abdul Razak on Sept 24, 2011.
“This means it is haram for the people to vote for Umno because it rejects Allah's laws,” said Tuan Ibrahim.
He pointed out that Umno had even gone to court to stop the PAS-led Kelantan government from implementing the hudud in the state several years ago.
‘Why is Umno still in BN?’
Tuan Ibrahim further said that MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek has a history of criticising Islam and insulting the hudud by saying that it will lead to failed states, and that he has called for the Kelantan government to be sued over its ban on gambling.
“Moreover, MCA has warned its coalition partner Umno that it will quit the BN if Umno wants to implement the hudud.
“The warning was accompanied by the (comment) that Umno’s Kemelah assemblyperson, who had proposed to implement the hudud, was insane, but Umno remained silent. Why doesn’t Umno quit the BN, exactly as it urges PAS to quit Pakatan Rakyat?”.
He then turned his sights back to Harussani, saying: “When the Perak mufti said it is haram to support DAP because it rejects hudud, people started to ask what the punishment is for voting for Umno.”
Tuan Ibrahim said it is only normal for DAP and non-Muslims to object to the hudud because the image of Islam has been tarnished by Umno for more than five decades.
He reiterated that the National Fatwa Council should call a meeting to study Abdullah’s remarks.
“The council should use the same ruler to measure all issues objectively. It is completely haram to use different standards to evaluate Umno and others,” he added.
