Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim will host a Google Hangout session next week, in hopes of engaging the younger electorate.

The 'Borak Bersama Anwar' session is on Aug 17, 10.30pm local time, and will go on for an hour.

"I feel honoured that I am the first local political leader to be on a Google Hangout . But all politicians should make use of this space for expression.

"When there is engagement in such situations the rakyat win," he said.

In a statement today, Anwar, the first Malaysian politician to go on Google Hangout , said that the effort is to get "to know more about what matters" to the technology savvy voters, which make up a almost quarter of the 2,270,002 electorates.

"You have a question, ask it then," said Anwar, who currently lags behind Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on social media platforms Twitter and Facebook .

"My team and volunteer staffers will work hard to deal with questions and queries in the lead up to this event and will include some of the respondents for the live session," he said.

NONE Najib leads with 807,978 Twitter followers, while Anwar has 181,351. The prime minister is also in the forefront with 1,157,625 fans on Facebook , with Anwar left behind with 379,987 likes.

Questions can be put forth through video on YouTube , or on Twitter via the #BorakAnwar hashtag and the links can also be shares Anwar's Facebook fan page or Google Plus event pages.

"The hour-long session will include those invited to participate as live video panellists, as mentioned earlier, during the session.

"Panellists will be selected from those who've submitted their videos. Be one of them," said Anwar.
