Air quality throughout the country improved today, with no areas recording unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as at 11am.

The Department of Environment website stated that 83 percent of the country had moderate API while 16 percent recorded good air quality.

The Klang Valley, Port Klang, Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya and Kuala Selangor, recorded unhealthy air yesterday with moderate API between 58 and 76.

The API categories are 0-50 good, 51-100 moderate, 101-200 unhealthy, 201-300 very unhealthy and above 301 hazardous.

Meanwhile, environment officer Mohd Amir Ismail said the heavy downpour in the Klang Valley this morning helped the situation.

“The rain helped reduce the haze in the Klang Valley,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
