The state legislative assembly today approved the First Supplementary Supply Bill 2012 for additional allocation totalling RM434.5 million.

State Assistant Finance Minister Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan said the supplementary allocation was necessary for the smooth operations of the state administrative machinery.

Of the total, RM118.5 million will be used for emergency work such as  repairs to damaged infrastructures, particularly water, drainage and irrigation, and railway tracks, he said when tabling the Bill.

Tawfiq said RM40.4 million was used to pay civil servants 7-13 percent salary rise effective Jan 1 and RM38 million to buy water at bulk supply rate this year and to pay arrears to the water supply concession company.

He said RM30 million was needed to pay production incentives to rubber smallholders this year.

The incentive was paid to offset the difference in rubber price in Sabah and peninsular Malaysia, he said.

Tawfiq also said the state government would spend RM30 million to maintain and repair roads and bridges state-wide.

He said RM28.7 million has been allocated to meet water treatment plants’ operational costs.
