Selangor PKR slams state over Latheefa resignation
Selangor PKR today said the state government should be more open to criticism, which is speculated to have led to the resignation of Petaling Jaya city councillor Latheefa Koya.

In a statement today, Selangor PKR deputy chairperson Zuraida Kamaruddin (

) expressed regret that the state had mulled sacking the PKR councillor without consultation with the party leadership.
“We (would) like to advise the Selangor government to be more open to criticism, especially when done confidentially as in this case.
“We express our regret that the state has taken the issue into its own hands with no consultation with the Selangor party leadership on this matter,” she said.
She added that Selangor PKR views Latheefa’s decision with deep regret and hopes that she will reconsider.
“She had been very instrumental in driving the new political culture in the party as well as the local government,” she said.
Latheefa had tendered her resignation yesterday following public speculation that the state would sack her after she privately raised concerns over housing for the poor with Selangor MB Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and other party leaders.
According to Selangor and Federal Territories Community Association (Permas) president Tan Jo Hann, this was after Permas complained of having been barred from protesting on the matter outside the state secretariat building on June 20.
State PKR unhappy with MB
Selangor PKR had also had strong words for Selangor MB Abdul Khalid earlier this month, calling him to take action against his political secretary Faekah Husin for allegedly issuing a support letter for her niece’s firm.
State party information chief Shuhaimi Shafie’s censure was only fair, as two councillors had previously been sacked from their jobs for issuing support letters.
The MB had also suspended an aide, who later resigned citing lack of confidence in Abdul Khalid, over a support letter.
Asked about this on July 4, Khalid said that Faekah’s case is not the same as that of the two councillors, as her letter was one for consideration and not support.
The letter was leaked on a blog at the height of the anti-Faekah online movement, allegedly spearheaded by PKR members who align themselves to the Selangor PKR leadership.
