PKR director of strategy Rafizi Ramli has defended the authenticity of the documents he exposed to back claims that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had intervened in an open tender for the LRT Ampang extension project.

Contacted today, he said that he has full confidence in the person who leaked the documents to him.

“Al the documents that (the whistleblower) gave to me are genuine. That’s why I am willing to risk my neck” he said, although refusing to identity of the whistleblower.

Rafizi was commenting on a statement by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd group chief executive officer Shahril Mokhtar, who disputed the authenticity of the documents exposed by Rafizi.

Shahril told The Edge Financial Daily that he doubts the document which reportedly showed that Najib, who is also finance minister had instructed SPNB to award the contract to George Kent (M) Bhd, is authentic.

Commenting further, Rafizi said it is, however, true that none of documents which he has exposed are award letters.

He said that he had only exposed the minutes of a Finance Ministry procurement committee meeting and letters from the ministry to Prasarana dated January and June last year.

He claims that the documents showed that the project was initially awarded to Balfour Beatty-Invensys Consortium but was given instead to George Kent due to Najib’s intervention.

Police are currently investigating Rafizi under the Official Secrets Act (OSA), while he was questioned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on June 27.

Rafizi, who previously spearheaded the exposes on the National Feedlot Centre (NFC), lodged a police report on alleged abuse of power by the PM on June 29, while MACC paid Prasarana a visit hours after that.
