Ahmad Shabery Cheek has described speculation that he would be appointed as the next Terengganu menteri besar if BN retains the state in the next general election, as an attempt at disuniting the state Umno.

The youth and sports minister as well as Kemaman member of parliament stressed that he was not keen on contesting a state seat.

"I believe (Terengganu Menteri Besar) Ahmad Said's leadership is the best and he should be given the opportunity to lead for another term," he told reporters in Kemaman today.

The minister said that whether or not he would stand in the general election was a non-issue as the selection of candidates was the prerogative of the party leadership.

To a question, he said the conflict in Terengganu Umno had long been resolved and that PAS and PKR were the ones who were having problems.

"The conflict in PAS and PKR is worse. PAS lacks potential successors as we keep on seeing the same people clinging to their posts," he said, adding that this was not the case with Terengganu Umno.
