Several Islamic scholars have brushed aside a call for the ban on the book ‘ Hadis: Satu Penilaian Semula ’ ( Hadith: A Re-evaluation ) by Kassim Ahmad, to be lifted.  

Describing the call as bizarre, Perlis mufti Juanda Jaya said it was a futile effort to get the ban lifted as the writer's views on hadith (Prophet Muhammad's sayings) had been rejected.  

"So we should not waste our time to do something in vain and he (the writer) should review his idea," said Juanda in a text message to Bernama yesterday.  

News portal Malaysiakini reported that Kassim had written to the home minister three months ago, urging the government to lift the ban imposed in 1986 on his book in 1986 which was deemed to go against the teachings of Islam.  

Perak mufti Harussani Zakaria said there was no necessity to review the book as action had already been taken against it.  

Former Islamic Dakwah Foundation Malaysia (Yadim) president Nakhaie Ahmad urged those who wanted to carry out reform in Islam to deepen their knowledge on Islam, the Quran and hadith first, and should not delve into research based on their understanding.
