MAS might shed jobs in future to cut costs

vox populi small thumbnail Bmjr: It is painful to see MAS chairperson Md Nor Yusof, an honest corporate citizen, do the dirty work for his political masters - read that as Umno - and instead of calling a spade a spade, he is talking airlines industry jargon about sweating assets, creating efficiency, blah, blah.

Nothing new here. Would he not have implemented all these in the last 10-15 years he has been at MAS?

He was known to be a straight-talking honest gentleman, which is quite rare among Malay corporate bigwigs.

However, to see Md Nor now sidestepping questions and talking about the same thing that he should have been doing from the day he was asked to take on the MAS job is painful, to say the least.

MAS is another Malay employment house and PM Najib Abdul Razak does not have the balls to pull the plug on the bloated staff numbers.

Baiyuensheng: Shedding the fat should have been done a long time ago and the act might have saved MAS a long time ago.

But the kampung mentality prevails in MAS. So what it has done is to delay the inevitable, using taxpayers' money. The billions that were lost could have been better spent on the welfare of the rakyat.

Samuel Ng: What is the ratio of general workers to one pilot and co-pilot in AirAsia compared with MAS? There lies the reason for the profit, or in the case of MAS, massive bleeding.

2LAN: If you want MAS to turn around, then get qualified people with vision to manage it. Accountants can only count the numbers but they do not know how to get them right. AirAsia can do it, why?

Onyourtoes: MAS should merge with SIA and the whole operation should be managed by those in SIA. I guarantee the government and investors will get their due returns and passengers will get to enjoy decent service at reasonable prices.

Otherwise, it will be endless restructuring, bailouts and talk of downsizing, but nothing will ever happen.

How many times has MAS gone through the same "revamp" and "restructuring"? National pride, my posterior.

I am not happy that many people have to be unemployed and look for work elsewhere but good money, i.e. taxpayers' money, is being thrown down a bottomless pit while the MAS management is talking about sweating assets, blah, blah, blah.

Even such a critical thing like this! An air-traffic control system that could involve the potential loss of hundreds of lives - they still grab a piece of the pie and compromise every ounce of their conscience. Sick. ABU (Anything but Umno).

Anonymous #07443216 : Since Transport Minister Kong Cho Ha has replied saying that the system is performing well, it looks like the minister is also personally involved with this closed tender scandal.

He is covering up all its shortcomings, or else why would he issue such a statement in Parliament?

'Case closed doesn't mean Anwar is innocent'

Broken Foot: Former Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) investigations director Abdul Razak Idris is a rather stupid man.

If you don't have enough evidence to prosecute Anwar, then he is innocent until proven otherwise by a court of law.

KEHOHAA: So he is saying that in the Atlantuya case, even though it's closed, the person involved is not cleared? Wow!

1Mockery: What does it mean that the case cannot stick in court? Does it mean that the person is still considered guilty?

Are we practising French law? To be fair, Anwar remains innocent unless proven guilty in court.

But to condone this act at a time close to the general election speaks volumes of the intentions of the BN government.

Wira: Not having enough evidence to charge is a lot better than having circumstantial evidence, like ministers and their children living beyond their means and no investigations are conducted against them. Don't talk nonsense, Abdul Razak Idris.
