PKR deputy president Azmin Ali has pledged his support to Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim, dousing speculations of a rift in the state’s leadership following an online smear campaign against the latter’s political secretary.
Azmin told reporters today that he has assured the menteri besar of his support and to work towards mobilising the party machinery to promote Selangor’s policies, with the election looming.
“It is normal in politics to have conflicts but I don’t agree with the campaign,” he said when approached at the Parliament lobby.
“If there are any complaints, we should raise it internally,” said Azmin.
He was responding to an online campaign started by a group called Kami Sayangkan PKR (We Love PKR) to have the fiery political secretary, Faekah Husin, sacked.
Previously Azmin, who had succeeded Khalid as the state party chief, had pointed out that there had been numerous complaints about Faekah (

Malaysiakini reported last week on the internal bickering, citing sources saying that the complaints against Faekah were by a “disgruntled” few who consider her an “obstruction”, considering her influence on Khalid.
However, Azmin skirted questions on whether the campaign is targeted at the menteri besar’s office, and reiterated that Khalid has his full support.
“As the state chair I don’t want a third party to take the opportunity (to damage the party),” he said.
Azmin added that he will reprimand those involved in the campaign and urged them to air their grouses internally.
