Selangor police have captured five men and two women suspected of kidnapping a sand supplier and his worker in Ijok, Kuala Selangor near Shah Alam on Monday.    

Selangor police chief Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said the two victims, both male, were kidnapped at about 2pm on June 11 near their sand quarry and the kidnappers had demanded a RM2 million ransom from the family.   

“We were informed of the kidnapping about 12.15am on June 12 and set up a task force to trace the victims aged 31 (supplier) and 45 (worker),” said Tun Hisan at a press conference in Shah Alam today.

However, the victims were released in Ijok at 9.30pm on June 12, after the kidnappers were paid RM850,000.    

He added that quick action by police managed to net the seven suspects aged between 21 and 47 at Bukit Raja, Kapar, Meru, Kota Damansara, Sentul and Taiping.  

“The victims were unharmed. And the 47-year-old suspect has a record of 27 previous criminal cases while the one aged 34 has a record of six cases, all for theft and robbery,” he said.   

“We managed to seize RM616,520 which was a part of the ransom money.   

“Investigations are still under way to identify the motive and also to ascertain if there are others involved and the suspects are being held under remand until June 19,” he said.
