Shallow for Teng to think assertiveness is the issue
YOURSAY ' It's race politics that is not going to get us anywhere and if you have not learnt this single most important lesson, than you will remain a third-class politician.'
Teng: I will be more assertive than Koh
Sadirah:
BN Penang chairperson Teng Chang Yeow, you must be stupid to think that more assertiveness is what that is needed. The fundamental issue is that BN has got the wrong formula.
It's race politics that is not going to get us anywhere and if you have not learnt this single most important lesson, than you will remain a third-class politician applying an antiquated formula to the Malaysia of the future.
Just take national unity and look at the record of the BN. We need to move on to cause-based politics where the interest and concerns of every Malaysian must be considered and responded to in a forthright manner.
BN cronies are calling for the repeal of Bersih co-chair S Ambiga's citizenship and this is what race politics is about, not fairness and justice.
So be as assertive as you like, but unless you can transform BN into a multi-ethnic party rather that a coalition of ethnic parties, then there is no future for the ruling coalition.
If you cannot get this fact, it is better that you leave politics.
Louis: When did Teng finally find his balls? He wants to stand up to Umno's demands? But Teng, your position is at the pleasure of your ‘tuans' - the Umno warlords.
In case you are naive or stupid, Umno put you there so that Penangites, especially the Chinese, will be fooled into voting for BN.
However, once BN comes to power, you will be nothing but a little poodle which can be kicked around.
Former Gerakan president and Penang chief minister, Dr Koh Tsu Koon, even being so accommodating to Umno, had his photograph torn .
Anonymous #58437020: Teng, please go and read your history book on Penang. The land approvals around Ferringhi, the big Low Yat projects, etc, were all approved in the 1980s.
When did Lim Guan Eng and DAP take over? How can he be held accountable for the hill projects approved by his predecessors?
Those of us who have been to Penang, and know Penang like the back of our hands, would like to suggest that you put on your reading glasses and check your facts before blaming Guan Eng for any of the past misdeeds.
Stop blaming the current management team. Go and talk to the developer friends cultivated by the past leaders.
Avathar: "I may be wrong, but I don't think we approved those projects in question at that point in time," Teng was quoted as saying.
Imagine, he does not even know what happens in the council during his tenure.
Rakyat Malaysia: Gerakan has never ever dared admit its mistakes. It has been only beating around the bush and taking Penang people for a ride for 20-plus years.
Gerakan, stop lying. You ran the state for so many years and did not know what was going on? Are you going to say you forgot, like the case of former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad 's selective amnesia?
When DAP took over, you ran away with a lot of files. What did you have to hide? You are keeping all those files, and you ask DAP to declassify them?
You better return those missing files first. Do you remember? Or don't know?
Geronimo: Yes, I have no doubt about it that he will put his foot down when it matters most - on his other foot, that is.
Just because Pakatan Rakyat is running the state, you all do nothing but ‘bising' (make noise) here and ‘bising' there.
How come I don't hear anything from you when Umno was selling military secrets to a foreign country?
That is by far more important than just cherry picking on Lim Guan Eng, who everybody agrees is doing a fine job despite all the constraints imposed on him by Umno.
Amused Malaysian: Teng cannot do worse than Koh - Gerakan under Koh lost every seat in 2008. Thank god, the chinless Koh is gone for good.
Penang folks are thrilled with Lim and support all his policies and actions. Have a vote today and see.
What's with the big fuss about hillslope development - KL's Ampang/Ulu Kelang areas are the only ones that suffered loss of life and property due to indiscriminate development.
James1067: Teng, no matter how you want to play the game, your boss is still Umno.
However you want to handle Penang, you cannot make decisions without the approval of your big brother.
So let's stop fooling around. Until Gerakan is a force that can decide for itself and not be dictated by others, then it cannot be respected.
Anonymous #28924705: It is not a matter of being assertive in leadership but that people had enough of the monopoly and arrogance in administration by your big boss in the government for 54 years.
The two-party system will be benefit the people hence the need for change in Putrajaya.
Your party has no effect and is unable to act effectively for the people in Penang. As such, your post as leader for BN in Penang will last only a short term and you will have to step down after the general election.
ONG: Koh Tsu Koon was a little mouse. Teng Chang Yeow is promising that he will be a bigger mouse. Unfortunately, a bigger mouse will still be a mouse when faced with the big Umno cat.
