The exercise will involve all divisions and coalition chairpersons have been told to get ready for the programmes, state BN chief Teng Chang Yeow said today.
The state BN committee, Teng said, has decided to distribute information on BN’s programmes and strategies as soon as possible.
“We have also arranged several approaches and methods to do this. We will be utilising the alternative media (including cybertroopers) and the mainstream media,” he told reporters after chairing the state BN committee meeting.
Teng said the coalition has also decided to appoint state BN secretary Omar Fauza (right) as election director.
Omar will monitor, review and implement all programmes and strategies decided by the state BN committee.
Cybertroopers to help BN
Teng also said the state BN has engaged 40 cybertroopers to explain issues and make responses on attacks against the BN by the state government and Pakatan Rakyat representatives.
The cybertroopers and the mainstream newspapers, he added, would also be utilised to inform and make Penangites aware of matters that do not benefit them.
“The issues identified, among others, are press freedom or the lack of it in Penang, lack of low-cost housing and traffic management woes,” said Teng (second from right), who is Gerakan secretary-general.
He declined to elaborate, saying that more details on the coalition’s strategies and programmes would be revealed from time to time.
On a related note, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to visit Penang today, to one of the areas said to be a safe state for Pakatan.
Teng said some 20,000 people are expected to turn up in Bagan - where Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is MP - will receive Muhyiddin at 3pm.
Asked if the choice of the venue was to send a strong signal to Lim to be ready for the coming general election, Teng said, “Bagan was chosen as there is good support from the people there, including the hawker community.”
“We want to send a message that even though the area has voted in an opposition MP, we will continue to visit it. This is BN, and this is what it means by people first,” he added.
