LGE: Police failure to act may lead to thug rule

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng  has warned  that if police fail to act against the known assailants of party members V and his brother Raidu, (left) the country may slide to a governance dominated by thugs.

"The identities of the perpetrators having been confirmed 36 hours earlier. Why still no arrests against the identified assailants?

"Failure by the police to act against such identified assailants will only prove that our country is governed by thugs who have no respect, not just for the rule of law but also for democracy," he said in a statement today.

On May 30, the duo who are also Indian Rights Action Force (Indraf 2.0) leaders were set upon by the thugs, leaving Raidu with a broken arm as well as a broken neck bone while Ganabatirao suffered a nose injury but managed to identify two of the assailants.

The duo alleged they had been threatened earlier that they would be attacked with machetes should they organise the Indraf 2.0 rally, which they subsequently did.

The assault was part of a series of violence targetting politicians, with the most recent being two DAP state assemblyperson pelted with eggs and stones in Merlimau, Malacca and political supporters injured during another ceramah in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur.

"Whether politically motivated or not, there is no place for such violence in our peace-loving country. Malaysian are sickened by these episodes and can no longer accept such behaviour," said Lim.
