PKR dares MACC to probe Najib over Scorpene scandal

PKR has lodged a report with the Malaysia Anti-corruption Commission (MACC) on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in relation to the Scorpene submarine scandal, and has challenged the commission’s review panel to take action.

Speaking to reporters after lodging the report at Selangor MACC headquarters in Shah Alam yesterday, PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin (right) dared operations review panel chief Hadenan Abd Jalil to declare whether the commission will probe the PM.
"We have just fed them with evidence (on the Scorpene-related revelations), now we give them a week to state whether they will investigate the matter," said Shamsul.
The evidence, he said, includes the USD1 billion commission allegedly sought by Najib during his tenure as defence minister and another 36 million euro allegedly paid to a company owned by the father of Najib's confidant Abdul Razak Baginda.
They are based on revelations made during the course of Suaram’s ongoing suit against French shipbuilder DCN in France.
Shamsul’s dare comes a day after Hadenan said that a graft case involving PKR vice president Azmin Ali closed 17 years ago would be reopened in view of the emergence of new evidence allegedly in fugitive blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin’s possession.
He urged the MACC to uphold its integrity and credibility and not to descended into what he quipped would be a "ministers’ corruption cover-up commission".
"This is in view that MACC's recent action to free (former women minister) Shahrizat Jalil from any wrongdoings has raised doubts about its partiality in the public's eye," he said.
When asked about a possible subpoena that French prosecutors may issue to the Malaysian government, Shamsul said Najib (above, in a Sorpene) should have had the courage to appear in the French court since he always boasts about upholding the laws.
"But we have yet to hear a single word from him on the case since day one," he said.
