NGO: Clearing Shahrizat shows MACC's true face

Jingga 13 chief coordinator Fariz Musa said that the results of the probe announced by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)’s operations review panel on Thursday was “no surprise but is as expected”.
Fariz (right) in a statement today charged that MACC’s task was merely to “save Shahrizat”, but said the rakyat “will not be fooled”.
“MACC’s actions have proven their real attitude, that is to be the body that ‘cleans’ Umno-BN leaders of any dirt, from any corruption or abuse scandal ahead of the general election, even when (the corruption) is crystal clear,” he said.
“The rakyat however can make their own assessment and perception towards the MACC’s conclusions in their efforts to save Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.”
On the other hand, he said, MACC has been delaying investigations over the NFC scandal that has resulted in no action, conclusion or charges, even though the PKR-linked NGO and PKR had lodged several reports against the minister’s family.
Fariz said this was in stark contrast to the haste in which the MACC has re-opened allegations against PKR deputy chief Azmin Ali that were already closed 17 years ago.
This week MACC operations review panel chief Hadenan Abdul Jalil announced that Shahrizat has been cleared of involvement in the award of the National Feedlot Centre project and a RM250,000 soft loan to NFC, owned by Shahrizat’s husband and children.
NFC has been accused of abusing the soft loan for the cattle project on unrelated purchases such as the purchase of luxury condominiums.
In March, Shahrizat’s husband and NFC CEO Mohamed Salleh Ismail was finally charged with misappropriating RM9,758,140 to fund the purchase of two condominiums at 'One Menerung' in Bangsar (above), Kuala Lumpur.
The trial begins on Nov 5.
However, no further action has yet resulted from the other numerous allegations raised against the company and its directors.
