Police will take action against any groups or individuals causing trouble or chaos during the ‘Green Gathering to Putrajaya’ organised by PAS at the Darul Aman Stadium in Alor Setar tomorrow.

Kedah deputy police chief Abdul Ghafar Rejab said the police would also stop any attempt by other parties to hold provocative demonstrations at the same location.

However, he said initial investigation proved that there was no group or individual planning to provoke the participants at the gathering.

Nevertheless, Abdul Ghafar said 550 policemen would be deployed to maintain public order and safety during the gathering, which was expected to attract between 30,000 and 40,000 PAS members.

“We have also set up a team to monitor the situation around the stadium to prevent untoward incidents, such as an explosion,” he told a press conference at Kedah police headquarters in Alor Setar today.

Abdul Ghafar said three main roads, namely Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Stadium and Darul Aman Expressway, were expected to be badly congested.

Hence, he said members of the public were advised to take alternative routes to the city centre.

“Buses carrying the participants can be parked at the state’s education complex, Zahir Mosque Square, Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium, Wisma Darul Aman or Jubli Emas Park.

“We will also place traffic policemen at Pekan Rabu as most participants are also expected to flock the market,” he said.

The green gathering are scheduled to begin at 9am at Kedah PAS Complex, Kota Sarang Semut near here, and the main gathering will take place between 4.30pm and midnight at the Darul Aman Stadium.

The gathering will also be attended by PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak.
