Pakatan 'can't use common logo' in next GE

The Election Commission (EC) has confirmed that Pakatan Rakyat will not be allowed to use a common logo for the 13th general election because the Registrar of Societies (ROS) has yet to approve its registration as a coalition.

As such, flags of component parties cannot be put up in a constituency where they are not fielding candidates, or these will be removed, said the EC deputy chief Wan Ahmad Wan Omar (left).
In an interview with Chinese newspaper Sin Chew Daily, Wan Ahmad explained that the election laws only allow contesting parties to display their registered logo in a constituency.
The EC has approved 32 logos of political parties, an increase of five from the last general election.
The new logos include those of Parti Cinta Malaysia, Party Makkal Sakti and Parti Sosialis Malaysia.
Pakatan has been involved in a dispute with ROS director-general Abdul Rahman Othman over the coalition's registration.
Abdul Rahman has claimed that Pakatan had made no new efforts to register the coalition after Zaid Ibrahim, who was in charge of the exercise, resigned from PKR.
However PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution has denied this, claiming that Pakatan had submitted a fresh application to the ROS in March last year.
