The water sample in an area owned by the Raub Australian Gold Mining Sdn Bhd (RAGM) in Bukit Koman, Raub, is free of cyanide, a chemical used to extract gold, the Pahang state assembly was told today.

State local government, environment and health committee chairperson Hoh Khai Mun said the state environmental department would continue monitoring the quality of the water, ground water and also the air quality in the area.

He said there were three locations to monitor river quality, seven for ground quality monitoring and three for air quality monitoring in the RAGM and Bukit Koman areas.

“Through air quality monitoring, we found that cyanide chemical reading was under control and under threshold limit value, according to control measures taken by RAGM.

“The government will continue to monitor the air and water quality around the RAGM and Bukit Koman areas to ensure public safety and health,” he said in response to Choong Siew Onn (DAP-Tras) in Kuantan today.
