DAP should give its full cooperation to the six-member independent panel headed by former inspector-general of police Hanif Omar to find the truth behind the violence during Bersih 3.0 on April 28, said the Kedah Gerakan Youth chief.

NONEDAP is boycotting the panel because it says the panel is not independent, but it is really the DAP which is not independent as they are a party supportive of and involved in the rally, said Tan Keng Liang (left) in a press release today.

“We can see that the independent panel consists of people from various sectors, including two free representatives from the media sector, Kumpulan Media Karangkaf (Sinar Harian) CEO Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub and Media Chinese International legal advisor Liew Peng Chuan,” said Tan.

“Instead DAP is one of the parties supporting Bersih, and its leaders were also involved in the street demonstration,” he said, adding that this made DAP not independent in the situation.

Tan was referring to DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s statement yesterday declaring that DAP was boycotting the panel, as it believed that Hanif Omar was not impartial and therefore unsuitable to head the panel.

The boycott statement came after the Bar Council’s own announcement that it would snub the panel, following a similar rejection by Bersih’s leaders earlier.
