Penang BN has revealed parts of a massive social economic transformation plan to recapture the state from Pakatan Rakyat, which has ruled it since 2008.

NONEState BN chief Teng Chang Yeow said one proposal is to promote the service sector, other than the manufacturing sector, as a new engine of growth.

He said the BN, if given the opportunity, will develop the state as a centre for tourism, while an international monetary centre, innovation dynamo park and an aquaculture hub will be set up on the mainland to help develop the coastal areas.

"We intend to ensure that there will be balanced development between Seberang Perai and the island," Chang Yeow told reporters after chairing his first state BN committee meeting today.

He also announced seven sub-committees to carry out the programmes and activities of the coalition.

Most notable of these is the psy-war committee headed by state PPP chief Loga Balan, and the political affairs committee headed by Dr Teng Hock Nan.

"The psy-war committee will see to all aspects of psy-war preparation for the election,"Chang Yeow said.

Hock Nan, who is state Gerakan chairperson, will look into the political issues and report these to the state committee for action.

NONEOther committees include information (MCA-Tan Cheng Liang), election strategy (Gerakan-Chang Yeow), strategy implementation (Umno-Omar Fauza) and procurement of election materials (MCA-Loh Nam Hui).

Chang Yeow also said all the local election centres will be activated immediately and that the state BN committee will make surprise visits to each one soon.

"Details of implementation will be revealed soon. Now we need to ensure our grassroots receive all the relevant information so that they are well prepared for the coming election," he added.

Omar has been appointed the new secretary for the state BN, while David Chua (MCA) is now the treasurer.
