your sayKairos: The police are trying to act tough. They do not realise that not only are they alienating themselves from the common people who once respected them, they are also making a fool of themselves.

They are asking people to surrender themselves to be humiliated and tormented by their interrogation techniques. Why would people want to do that?

Why are the police treating the people as if they are hardcore criminals when all they did was march for a just cause? They meant no harm in the first place. What kind of a perverted justice is this?

As for the police officers who acted like thugs to beat up innocent people, well, let the 'independent panel' decide. Chances are, they will all be exonerated.

Jeremy Ng: I am not surprised by the intimidating actions of the police at Bersih 3.0 rally. But I am more shockingly disappointed by the police's blatant non-action on the 'death threat' of the Penang CM by a bunch of untamed goons.

And, this bunch of untamed goons had been spotted on numerous occasions committing ‘criminal' offences.

Death threats by uncivilised and untamed goons are definitely more dangerous as compared to peaceful demonstrators.

2zzzxxx: To make their Umno masters happy, the police just did a random cut-and-paste job without even double checking. This is how they work.

Open Minded: Look at the ‘wanted list' as a simple ploy to cover the damage done by the authorities to stop the overwhelming support shown by all Malaysians to a cause worthy of justice and truth of a democratic society that had so far existed mainly playing on sensitive, religious and racial issues to stay in power.

Bersih co-chairperson S Ambiga can be considered as the Gandhi of Malaysia who has the audacity to stand against a system that has hoodwinked and driven 'fear' of the unknown into the poor and simple people of the country.

If BN has the guts and boldness to really test its popularity then it should let justice prevail without any intimidation or monetary rewards for votes.

Skong: If it is double visual, it can be excused due to oversight but not four photos of the same individual in the wanted list.

How can we expect them to do a proper job when a simple verification was not done?


Utusan concedes error, apologises to Aussie senator

Lover Boy: Australian senator Nick Xenophon, the apology by the Utusan Malaysia is based on a mistake. By that I understand it was not deliberate, but due to a mistaken belief that Scientology was somehow accidentally mixed up with Islam.

Now this was double confirmed with the Hansard that Xenophon in fact referred to Scientology, I say sue Utusan and let them explained how this "mistake" happened.

If you look at the article in totality - it also attacked Xenophon for supporting same-sex marriage - you can take cognisance that Utusan's intentions were to discredit and put the senator's life in danger.

That was not a mistake but a deliberate attempt to put his life in harm's way. I say sue the newspaper for all the money you can get.

Changeagent: There is no sincerity at all in Utusan's apology. If they were truly contrite, they wouldn't have waited 10 days since the article was first published to retract their blatantly dishonest and malevolent article.

They should have apologised much earlier, and not wait until Xenophon had threatened to sue for defamation before trying to make amends. Their half-hearted attempt at an apology is nothing more than a little act of tokenism that had arrived too little, too late.

As a matter of fact, they should have detailed how they had so seriously 'misquoted' the senator to convince him not to sue for damages.

Gen2: Putting an apology hidden away on page six is akin to the Malay proverb, "Throwing a stone and then hiding your hand behind your back".

This Malay proverb teaches us what is good and what is right. It looks like Utusan is not following the good Malay social values yet they are always claiming to protect Malay cultural values.

If Utusan is ethical and sincere in its apology, it would give it the same prominence as the original offending article.

The Quran also says not to bear false witness against your neighbour. It looks the Utusan staff are not good Muslims either. The Quran has a word for this - 'munafik'

Doc: I'm totally shocked and dumbfounded. Utusan Malaysia, the mouthpiece of the Malays (as they claim), the demi-god of Umno, the defenders of the Malay race and the Muslim faith (as they claim) are brought to their knees and forced to apologise to an Australian.

What are Utusan readers (I mean those that read Utusan and not those that use it to ‘bungkus' nasi lemak) going to think, now that their almighty newspaper and Umno are forced to ‘kowtow' to someone of a lesser race.
