Felda second generation settlers get houses

Fresh from the RM1.689 billion windfall given to Felda settlers, today 167 second generation settlers of Felda Sungai Sayong in Kulaijaya received houses.

They are among 204 children of Felda settlers who received offer letters for first phase of houses under ‘Rumah Mesra Rakyat 1Malaysia’.
Second generation settler Haripah Salleh, 52, said she is grateful to the government for the concern showed in helping Felda settlers.
“Yesterday the prime minister announced a windfall for Felda settlers and today we are given houses as well.
“Where else can we find a government that is concerned for the people’s welfare than Barisan Nasional,” she at the agreement signing and presentation of offer letters at Felda Sungai Sayong, Kulaijaya by Bandar Tenggara MP Halimah Sadique.
Meanwhile, Halimah said the government has approved the construction of 498 houses in four Felda schemes - Felda Bukit Ramun, Felda Bukit Besar, Felda Pasir Raja and Felda Sungai Sayong.
“Of 204 houses built in Felda Sungai Sayong a cost of RM65,000 of which RM20,000 was subsidised by the government,” she added.
In Kuala Lumpur, Felda Vision Generation Alliance (GWGF) described the windfall announced by Prime Minister Najib Razak was for Felda’s excellence for 56 years.
GWGF chairman Rozali Ismail said settlers, new generation and staff have been recognised by the government as a catalyst for the excellence.
“It wasn’t easy for us to build Felda which has more than two million people. It is appropriate that they share the benefit from the listing of Felda Global Ventures Holdings (FGVH),” he said in a statement today.
Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Felda settlers should be grateful for the windfall and reject opposition claims that BN had marginalised them.
The defence minister said that the windfall proved that the BN government did not renege on its promise to the people and always care for their welfare.
“It must not be regarded as candy to the people ahead of general election but Felda’s contribution to settlers derived from profit from its products,” he said in a statement.
In Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman said the windfall to Felda settlers proved the government’s success in running the country for the people’s well-being.
“The windfall is the highest and never imagined before. The people must know that BN always plan the best for them in terms of income, jobs and comfort,” he said when opening an agriculture expo in Putatan.
