Cuepacs hopes that the special commission to carry out a comprehensive and holistic review of the civil service can be set up this month.

Its president, Omar Osman, said that it has received numerous queries on the matter from curious affiliated members  

“Hopefully the commission’s members will be announced before the May Day celebration is over,” he told a press conference at Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang near Putrajaya today.

Omar said most affiliated members who inquired are from 23 trade unions that sent a memorandum and recommendation for setting up of a task force to find solution to various issues, especially those related to salary adjustment.

The special commission was announced by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak at a special meeting with civil servants in Putrajaya on March 8.

During the meeting, Najib also announced cancellation of the Public Service New Remuneration System (SBPA) and implementation of an improved Malaysian Remuneration Scheme (SSM), including salary adjustment of 7-13 percent.

It is understood that the commission would propose a salary system to solve the many issues raised like maximum salary, seniority of officers, promotion, and so forth.
